Seems Michael Pachter wasn't off the mark when he predicted that the Xbox 360 would outsell the PlayStation 3 in October. NPD has revealed the hardware sales figures for last month and, true enough, the Microsoft console sold more units than Sony's multimedia monster.

Be that as it may, both consoles still paled in comparison to the Wii's sales. The Sony PlayStation Portable also bowed down to the Nintendo DS in terms of sales. Here's how the hardware race went down:
  • Wii - 803,000
  • Nintendo DS - 491,000
  • Xbox 360 - 371,000
  • PSP - 193,000
  • PlayStation 3 - 190,000
We're already coming into the holiday season, so it'll be interesting to see if Sony manages to bring their sales numbers up. It's gonna be hard, though, seeing as how the company is still standing strong against a PS3 price cut.

Over on the software side, Xbox 360 titles dominated the charts. Fable 2 got the top spot with the Wii Fit and Balance Board bundle coming in at a distant second. The only PS3 titles to penetrate the top ten were SOCOM: Confrontation and LittleBigPlanet at number 7 and 8, respectively.
  1. Fable II (Xbox 360) - 790K
  2. Wii Fit w/ balance board (Wii) - 487K
  3. Fallout 3 (Xbox 360) - 375K
  4. Mario Kart w/ wheel (Wii) - 290K
  5. Wii Play w/ remote (Wii) - 282K
  6. Saints Row 2 (Xbox 360) - 270K
  7. SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals Confrontation (PS3) - 231K
  8. LittleBigPlanet (PS3) - 215K
  9. NBA 2K9 (Xbox 360) - 202K
  10. Dead Space (Xbox 360) - 193K
