Want to know more about Gamecock Media Group and Red Fly Studio's Mushroom Men (for the Wii and DS)? Developer Ryan Mattson reveals a few more details to their fungi-infested title: about how the art style evolved to the way it is now, how the controls work out, and about level exploration, one of the main features of the game.Mattson revealed that Red Fly Studios didn't intend the art style used in the game to turn out a tad nitty-gritty like the way it is now. Thanks to the personal touch of their concept artist, Frank Teran, the sceneries now look a bit darker. Judging by the screens, however, it looks like the changes all turn out to be good. As for the controls, Red Fly Studios wanted to take out the emphasis of Wiimote waggling from the control interface, with an attack scheme that gives higher incentive to less Wiimote Waggling. How is this done? Mattson explains how: So while you can waggle, and the character reacts to the waggle, there is much more incentive not to with a system we’re working on which allows attacks to be primed (for increased damage, and combos) before they’re executed. The attacks become deliberate. Combat, at a higher level, involves more strategy. And we’re having a lot of fun with this right now. The developer also said that they're putting more focus towards exploration in the game, with the use of the Scav system. The Scav system, as we have reported in an earlier article, lets players create new kinds of weapons from the items they collect along the way. Of course, one has to explore to find stuff. "It's a win-win," Mattson said. It looks like we're in for a different ride with Mushroom Men. Stay tuned for more updates! Check out the Read link for the full interview! |

Behind the odd premise of mushrooms and their merry life, developer Red Fly Studios behind Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars have some unique ideas going for the new title about to grace the Wii and DS. In an interview with Total Gamer Zone, Red Fly buzzed over what the trippy spore wars are all about. As it seems, the studio's mantra was making a game from a unique perspective. It didn't take long before ideas melded together, and what was supposed to be a world of jolly mushrooms became dark and gritty. Being early in development, Red Fly can only tell us as much as the Wii version being "a third person action platformer hybrid in the sense that there's tons of action but also a lot of exploration in the game." The bite-size version on the Nintendo's handheld is a side-scroller in a 3D world, like we've seen in previous trailers. For Red Fly, developing for the Wii is not aiming for the console's large user-base or creating a game with lower costs, but it's about how easy to make things work. From the interview: ...the Wii is a dream to develop with, it's
incredibly easy and intuitive and you can literally set up simple
control schemes in a matter of minutes, but for us the real draw was
the Wiimote. We had the idea for the game, we just
needed a system. At that point we needed to decide whether we wanted to
make the game really interactive or another high def next gen title. At
that point, we figured – the Wiimote is a lot of fun, it’s easy to
develop for and people love it. |

Seeing the world through a three-inch high mushroom's "eyes" is definitely a unique way of viewing it in Gamecock Media Group's upcoming action-adventure platformer, Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars. Ryan Mattson, a designer for the game, talks about the early development stages for Mushroom Men.
A little bit of the story is finally revealed as he tells how two groups of sentient mushrooms, the edible and poisonous mushrooms, are at war with one another. The world of Mushroom Men builds itself from a unique view of how the creatures create strange and new weapons and equipment from various human artifacts through the use of the "scav system." I'm sure nobody can imagine a small mushroom trying to bludgeon a pill bug to death with a stick, a bit of string, with a metal nut attached on the end. The game will be released for both the Nintendo Wii and the DS. The DS version will be a prequel of sorts compared to the Wii, however both are complete games in themselves and will still be an enjoyable experience either way. The game is slated to be released in the fall of 2008. In the meantime, enjoy the video of this fungi infested action-adventure game. |

For those of us keeping tabs on one of Gamecock Media Group's upcoming creations, Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars for the Nintendo Wii and Dual Screen, here's a new trailer to whet your appetites for the game that promises to make weaponry out of everyday objects.
For a trailer, it doesn't show much - there's no gameplay bits to speak of, or any new info that could give us a clue on how the game would actually play. However, we do see quite a lot of what appears to be the designs for new units, namely bipedal red mushrooms sporting tattered red cloaks. Details are still scant, of course, but it's probably safe to say that these dudes in scarlet represents one of the playable factions waging war in our own backyard. Enough spoilers! Enjoy the video! |

It was just like yesterday when we first mentioned Gamecock Media Group and the juicy games they will throw at our way. The group has surely came a long way - they now have an official website and they have released a teaser vid of one of their projects - Mushroom Men: The Spore War. Now, IGN reports that Mushroom Men will be officially conquering the Nintendo Wii and DS. According to Gamecock Console Chief Rick Stults: From the minute we signed Mushroom Men we've worked to bring it to the Wii and DS. ... Both platforms are going to give Mushroom Men a life of their own as [developer] Red Fly Studio is building unique stories specific to each system. The game aims to make use of the unique control schemes of each system - especially that of the Wii. The game has a wacky premise: the Mushroom Men war takes place at your backyard and the weapons will be made from everyday items that we don't usually pay too much attention at. Annihilate household pests with other forms of plants using your Wiimote or DS stylus. Here are some screens and artworks of Mushroom Men for the Wii. We'll surely give more updates about the game's PSP, PS3, Xbox 360 status as more info comes our way. |

The game Mushroom Men: The Spore War for the Xbox 360, PSP, PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS, and the Wii is interesting to say the least. Developed by Red Fly Studios and produced by Gamecock media group, few details have been made known about the game aside from the storyline and a few tidbits.
After the passing of a comet, the fungi have been acting differently. Among the now sentient mushrooms, factions have formed, and war is raging between them. You will play a brave Bolete Mushroom Man who has the power to transform common household items and trash into weapons of mass destruction. So far three classes have been revealed: the scout, the sage, and the heavy. No additional details have been revealed about the game. Slated to be released Q2 of 2008, the jury is still out on this game. Check out the video and see if it catches your interest. |
