In the GSTAR Game Expo held in South Korea, Nexon Korea’s international business division general manager Jamie Kang has revealed that they've been working on an Xbox 360 port of the MMORPG Mabinogi for over a year now. He also shared some details about Maple Story DS, which he said will not be an MMORPG like the original Maple Story but an action-adventure RPG.

If that sentence alone wasn't enough to grab your attention and perk your ears up, then I honestly don't know what will. But believe it or not, this "School Girl" trailer is actually for the upcoming Wizet-developed DS game called Maple Story. And as reported earlier, Maple Story will be the very first MMORPG for the DS (aside from Pokemon, that is).

Very little is known about this game, apart from the factoid that it'll be a side-scrolling RPG with an avatar code system. And although the game looks Japanese-y (or more precisely, Korean-ish), DS users from all over the globe need not worry because the game will also be released in Australia, Japan, US, and Europe sometime this November. The DS version of the PC RPG Maple Story has not only been re-confirmed by its Korean gaming developer Nexon, the company even gave it a release date: sometime September 2007.

News of Maple Story for the DS first surfaced at E3 2006. Since then the buzz died down until these recent info came out. According to resurrected buzz, Nexon has a dedicated team headed by the company's Managing Director Hyong-No Kim working on the game.

The DS version will stick to the game's PC gameplay such as the variation of jobs, skills, and battle system. But new elements aimed specifically for Nintendo's bestselling handheld will be added. Maple Story will be a side-scrolling action RPG with an avatar code system.

Maple Story DS will be released in a special DS bundle initially in Korea. Don't worry, the game will also be available in Europe, US, Japan, and Australia.

Here's an interesting bit of news that has gone largely unnoticed. Maple Story, a free 2D MMORPG by Wizet and published by Nexon, will be hitting the Nintendo DS. It looks like Nexon is actually collaborating with Nintendo on the project. If there is any MMORPG that could work with the DS, other than Pokemon, it's this.

For now, whether or not the game will be released outside of Korea is unknown. However, this announcement was at E3 so who knows? I might actually go back to playing it if it's on the DS... I quit after Wizet backstabbed its fans by deleting their beta characters after repeatedly denying it would happen. Still, it's a good game for beginners to the MMORPG genre. The learning curve is not very great at all and it's completely free to play. It's not a flash game, you'll have to download the file at their official website.
