EriCKY Member Review Banner - M3 Lite (NDS)

Our resident forum moderator, EriCKY, has finished his review of the M3 Lite he recieved yesterday and has posted it on our forums. The review is one of the first reviews of this great product, and I'm almost convinced that this is the flash adapter to get this year! With great compatability, a flush fit (contrary to previous speculation and pictures), expandable memory, you really can't go wrong with this flashcart. Aside from it's high price point of about 80$, it is the best flashcart on the market according to this review. So, do you want to know why EriCKY thinks it is so great? Read so below -

Introduction to the M3 Lite

The M3 Lite comes from a excellent team of people who have made many products for the DS/Lite. All of them seem to come out almost perfect. The M3 Lite is the newest addition, and it’s the smallest one yet. Fitting flush with the DS lite, and having removable storage…seems perfect, right? Let’s see about that.

Contents in the Box

M3 products usually come in a small blue box, the Lite is no different. On the box, is the usual Engrish we’re used to finding on DS flashkits, but that’s no problem, so what’s inside? Inside the box are 3 shells for the M3 Lite (Black, White, and light blue) and a mini-CD that has the M3 Software. The M3 Lite is well built; inserting and taking out the MicroSD is easy because it doesn't screw in like the EZ Flash.

Using it

First thing I noticed about the M3 Lite is that it's COMPLETELY flush with the DS Lite. This being a M3 product, I expected it not to be flush because none of their products were on their first try. Putting roms/homebrew on the M3 Lite is as easy as it was for previous M3 products and G6 products. You simply use the user-friendly M3 Game Manager, which comes with the M3 Lite. Unfortunately, it’s a bit hard to take out of the DS Lite, nothing too bad though.

Interface/Trying it out

The M3 Lite uses the regular M3 interface, which didn’t change at all. Thankfully, the interface is fully skin-able. Launching roms and homebrew is as easy as pressing the A button. You can also go into GBA mode by pressing start in the main menu. One con I had with the M3 Lite is the saving system. The games save AFTER you turn the DS off and AFTER you turn it back on. When you turn on your DS, you see the saving screen for about 3-5 seconds, and then go to the main M3 Menu.

Compatibility

This is the issue many flashcarts/adapters lack. Fortunately, mostly everything I threw at it worked perfectly. The Castlevania intro is the problem. It doesn’t run smooth exactly, but it doesn’t run as bad as a slide show either

Note - I hear the reason why the slideshow is slow to me is because of my Sandisk MicroSD card. Kingmax MicroSDs should work perfectly.

Homebrew compatibility is perfect. Every homebrew app and game I put in worked perfectly. Here’s a list of homebrew I have tried –

A Touch of War – WORKS
DSDoom – WORKS
DSOrganize (green) – WORKS
MegaETK – WORKS
ScummVM – WORKS

Note - If any of you want me to try a certain homebrew game/app, let me know through this thread, or through PM.

Conclusion

The M3 Lite performs just like its bigger counterparts, (SD and MiniSD) but looks way better and is the best flashcart I own at this time. There are no huge problems with it, and the compatibility factor is VERY high. If you have the cash, get a M3 Lite. If not, definitely get a G6 Lite. Both of them are excellent.

+Flush-fit with the DS Lite system
+Best compatibility of a DS Lite flashcart/adapter
+Uses MicroSD cards
+Clean, and skinnable interface
+Quick and easy patching of roms using the M3 Game Manager
+Comes with changeable shells.
- Hard to take out of the DS Lite
- Saving system can get annoying

I give the M3 Lite a 9.9/10. It’s almost perfect, and its flaws may not even bother everyone.

Hi could you tell me if the talkie version work with the M3L?

I've heard that the SCL has better homebrew support than the M3L does is this true?

Cheers

Talkie version does not work, and homebrew support of SCL is better than M3L (SC in general is better than M3).

Can you please retry the games with version 27 firmware? They upped my Castlevania test by one point (from a 3 to a 4 with a Sandisk miniSD). Thanks.

Hello,

If I get you well, the talkie version of Scummvm games work with the supercard but not with the M3?
What is the problem with the M3?

Thanks!

To: 2k1yellows2k ... no M3 lite takes microSD; and you'll need passcard 3 to boot *.nds.

.........and i Love it, it really fits well into the dslite, although the carts didnt come in my pink ds color *sigh* but the review was good, the only con i would add is the pricey tag, but if you guys are looking for a reliable flashcart, then the m3 lite is for you.
