DSi Poll - Image 1 DSi Poll - Image 2

"I can see the DSi being successful," said Sony brand manager John Koller earlier this month. Based on a recent poll conducted by Dengeki Online though, it looks like Koller might have misjudged the competition. From the look of things, there isn't any competition (compared to the PSP-3000's proven success at least)!

The DSi poll was answer by an undisclosed number of Japanese readers. The only thing we know of the sample set is that the average age was 26.28 years old and that 81.4% of them were male; 18.6% female.

So, with that established, what do the Japanese gamers think of the DSi? Here are the results of the poll:

On buying a DSi unit (first pie chart above):
  • 40.7% will not buy a DSi
  • 29.4% will wait and see if the DSi is worth it
  • 26.2% are undecided
  • 3.6% will buy "soon" (presumably upon launch?)
On what DSi color they would buy (second pie chart above):
  • 53.4% will buy black
  • 45.9% will buy white
  • 0.7% did not answer
On what is the most attractive thing about the DSi:
  • 30.8% Screen size
  • 29.5% DSi hardware
  • 15.1% Camera
  • 11.6% Sound
  • 3.4% SD card slot
Of course, this being a poll which is based on current public opinion, the data set we have here may not reflect on actual sales figures when the DSi gets released.

Not suprising since everyother person in Japan already has a DS or DS Lite :

» I dont get the DSi

We are currently seeing a decline in quality DS games. I know it's a cash cow, but by now they should at least be hyping the next actual system. This DSi just isn't going to improve gameplay. Tacking a camera onto something has never been a real scale tipper. It may end up a commercial success due to hackers who will use that SD slot for all its worth, but otherwise, I just don't get it.

At this point, can we just get a new handheld gaming system that isn't blocky or pixelated. The psp is great, but it's still got major graphical issues. Certainly in 4 years they could have done better, or COULD do better with a new system.
