What better way to promote the upcoming release of your jammin' music game than to have one of the more popular alternative emo bands play it on video? That's what the good ol' folks at Ubisoft did, tapping the Long Island, New York band Taking Back Sunday.
In this short but sweet vid, you have frontman Adam Lazzara and guitarist Fred Mascherino obviously enjoying themselves with Jam Sessions. The performances so far have been delightful, and this one just adds to the interest for the game, especially to those who have an affinity for strumming their woes and glees. Jam Sessions is coming out in just a week - September 8th to be exact. So get your strumming fingers ready and brace yourselves for the music game that's got Taking Back Sunday jamming with joy! |

Ubisoft's Jam Sessions is a guitar simulation game for the Nintendo DS. If you want to take the experience to the next level, you might want to check out the Performance Bundle of the game which comes out on November 11. It includes both a retail version of the game as well as a portable guitar amplifier which you can plug into your handheld. So far, the developers have only announced three game modes - Challenge mode, Tutorial mode and Free Play. The song list is pretty solid which should make Challenge mode an enjoyable experience while more experienced musicians will probably be having more fun with Free Play. If you plan on picking this up, the performance pack is going for a hefty US$ 69.99 at Gamestop. Feel free to click on our read link if you want to find out more about ordering this product. |

To add to the promotion of Ubisoft's new "Guitar Hero in your pocket" rhythm sim, here are a couple of videos featuring some well-known artists strumming a few tunes on Jam Sessions for the Nintendo DS.
In the first video, we have Kyle McDonald, one of the guitarists from the popular band Slightly Stoopid, showing off his skills while chilling on a relaxing day. The second video has Josh Grubb from Vietnam with a soulful rendition of Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry". Both give credit to Jam Sessions ability to simulate an actual guitar, which just goes to show that while Jam Sessions was meant to be a guitar sim where even relative novices can learn to play the guitar, when put in the hands of a real talented musician, it can really put some soul into the blues. Jam Sessions is slated for an October release and will be coming out exclusively for the Nintendo DS, so musically inclined gamers can expect this one by then. Till then, enjoy the videos! Check out the second video right after the jump! |

Ubisoft has announced that Jam Sessions will be launched in EMEA territories this summer. To give you an idea on what the game is about, the recent press release has branded the game as a "groundbreaking music title exclusively for the Nintendo DS". The game simulates strumming on the touch screen of the DS. It has been said that "an authentic sound digitally remastered from an actual acoustic guitar" will be the end result of your efforts. Three modes of gameplay have been confirmed: Performance, Free-Play, and Tutorial Mode. The game also grants players the ability to record their compositions which should be great for musicians or frustrated musicians (such as myself). John Parks, the EMEA Marketing Director, spoke on the game and what it has to offer to gamers everywhere. Jam Sessions is an amazing title with limitless potential to entertain and engage a wide audience of people who love music, guitar and singing. Basically, it’s a guitar in your pocket but that’s just the beginning. It’s a chance for people who have never thought of themselves as "musically inclined" to jump right in and play through entire songs, compose their own music and sing along with friends. Jam Sessions looks to be a really promising game. If it delivers what it promises, then a lot of DS owners will probably be leaving their guitars at home. Be sure to check out the screenshots of the game to see if it merits your attention. |

Apart from the initial info we dished out for you on Ubisoft's Jam Sessions DS offering, here's something more tangible for you guys to hold on to. This one here is a video of a GameVideos intern rockin' it out with the game, and it ought to give you a more concrete idea of how this Guitar Hero-ish title will appeal to your musical tastes.
As you will see from the vid, Jam Sessions provides a freer sound trip, with you being able to decide how you'll play your own riffs as well as how you'll time your strumming. It sure looks really promising and über fun. And it ain't so hard to imagine spacing out with this game on your handheld, just like what happened to the intern, especially when your whiling away on some really dumdays. Keep it posted here for more updates. We'll be sure to get it for you cos, oh yeah, we're definitely interested in this one, too. |

Ubisoft has just given word that they're going to release a game similar to Guitar Hero on the DS, which they're calling Jam Sessions. But although Jam Sessions involves playing the guitar, the game will be different from the Japanese Cult Hit guitar game. The game will have performance, free play and tutorial modes. Unlike Guitar Hero, which sets the tempo at which the player plays the notes over already-provided backing instruments, Jam Sessions displays only the lyrics and the notes, with no timing whatsoever. Musically savvy gamers will probably find Jam Sessions fun, because it lets you play pieces in the tempo that you want. For those who don't really have any musical background, though, the game might still prove to be quite educational. |
