Japanese coder Yasusoft seems to have managed to hack the DSi handheld already. Man, already? The story is this: He was able to borrow his friend's unit (he didn't have his own because the units sold out after launch!), and after three days, he was successful in running unsigned code: a "Hello World" app in the Photo Channel. Currently, Yasusoft is intentionally keeping everyone in the dark as to how he was able to pull of the hack specifically - the only thing he reveals is that the method he used "may be same as you think up." Some people in the GBATemp forums speculate that it's being done much like how it was during the PSP's heyday: overflowing the buffers by using a hacked TIFF image.

Other people however already speculate this as bollocks, thinking that the hack was preformed by an animated gif and run on the Photo Channel.

Whatever the case may be, Yasusoft says he won't release the hack itself but may eventually roll out a custom firmware.
