Halo DS - Image 1

IGN Editor Matt Casamassina is a troubled man. To quote his latest blog entry: "My Halo DS blog has haunted me since I posted it because many people were skeptical of my claims. I wouldn't make something like that up, of course, but that hardly silenced any of my critics."

Now with Halo 3 fever creeping over the Cortana network that is the XBL community, Matt has finally proven to everyone the existence of a Halo DS. Yes, he does maintain that it was real. But see, the important thing to note here is that it will never see the light of day on retail. It was never officially released, and will never be officially released. The copy that IGN got was simply a tech demo.

Matt says that big names were involved in developing this kick-ass demo (which he previously mentioned played a lot like Metroid Prime: Hunters). The graphics are actually very good for a DS game, and really - to quote Matt again - "prove that Halo DS wasn't a garage project by a two-man team."

To get the full deal (and evidence) from Matt himself, check the videos below. Hey, we got the same kind of DS Lite!

Good thing it's not released, if they were to release Halo for any Nintendo cthing I'd want it to be on the Wii

Halo on the Wii would be a nothing but a disgrace.

 » fake

this is so fake. why the hell would bungie make halo for ds. that would be the last console it would be on since like 99% of ds owners are 8 year olds. its probably a mod of metroid or some other game like that.

» Awww, look at the cute little microsoft fanboy

Really dude, grow up. You hate a company, do you realise how stupid that is?

Nintendo isn't just for kids.
Sony isn't just for rich guys
Microsoft isn't just for people obsessed with FPS.

It was real, and why wouldn't they make it? Almost everyone who would care about this has a DS, well, except you obviously, I mean, we both know you're way too mature to enjoy a system made by Nintendo.

Microsoft dont have a handheld. They wouldn't lose out on this. They'd gain popularity through the Halo name growing, and make money from it. It's not going to replace Halo 3, and it's not going to be competing against a Microsoft handheld, so they've nothing to lose by doing it.

im saying its very unlikely bungie/microsoft would go through all this effort to make a game that would captivate such a small audience on the ds.

   Re: Mattroid - 2007-10-02
 » wut?

"Small audience"? Excuse me? Let's take a look at the numbers of the DS vs the PSP (vgchartz.com). Man, ain't that something? That must be A LOT of little kids! Every kid under 10 in the nation must have one, cause surely no teenager or adult in his right mind would own one!

And in response to your claim that 99% of DS owners are 8 yrs old, let's take a look at this pic from the Penny Arcade Expo:

http://www.penny-arcade.com/pax_07_2.jpg

Wow, look at all those "kids." And look at all those DS's. And how many 8 yr olds do you see there? How many PSPs?

Wow, just wow. You just might be the most misinformed person on the planet - good job.

Re: Mister Common Sense - 2007-10-03
 » yay

Wow if it's real maybe there WILL be a DS game worth buying! Then again I already have Halo 3 on the 360.
   by dangermouse - 2007-10-02
 » Very plausible

It's a bit childish to brush it off as fake simply as it's unlikely. Sure it's unlikely, but there are plenty of reasons it could be real, though it's DEFINITELY no more than a tech demo.

Bungie have mentioned some secret projects, that's no secret (haha), and who's to say a few of their technical didn't take a level and hotwire it into a Metroid engine as a proof of concept for a future project? Or any other number of possible scenarios.

Sure it could be fake, but do try keep an open mind.

And DS is only for 8 year olds? I won't make the same mistake of making a dumb blanket statement, but the DS has a surprising user base. I can't claim plenty of older people play it, but I do a LOT. Megaman and Zelda have seen me through many hours kicked back in a seat waiting for video to render when I work.

I reckon this is an awesome proof of concept, assuming that's actually running ON a DS (and not emulated), that's one hell of a frame rate, now I hope they are working on something, whatever that may be

this seems very familiar to Golden Eye: Rogue Agent

Like skinned familiar...

 » Seems cool, but. . .

It seems very awesome, but wifi doesn't load that fast. I do believe that they have a copy of it but they don't have 2.

   by tito0096 - 2007-10-02
 » Also. . . .

even if they made a Halo DS demo it wouldn't look that fake the wifi thing is in the top right corner and it would have a signal and the text looks like its sloppily put in and doesnot match the surrounding area. The radar blips are not the halo style either. I don't know I could be wrong but I am just saying after my analysis.

   by JelloBiafra - 2007-10-02
 » really

its not a DEMO by any means. It was a small alpha build of the game, none of the assets(models sprites etc) were even final, the text was DEFF not final. Its kinda obvious why this never got made, MS would no way let them release it on a diff system. Still looked pretty fun though.

   by otacon - 2007-10-02
» it did exist, bungie announced that it did

I really wanna play that!!!!!! and with wifi it would be a fun pass time. someone leak it! that would be worth modding a ds

   by [Juice] - 2007-10-03
 » ..

I probably would have played it. MPH was pretty fun.

And yes Mohaas is an idiot he made it quite obvious. Microsoft wants money. If you put their money maker on one of the hottest selling items out there then that would have to be even more money don't you think? Why else would Viva Pinata find its way to the DS?

» You guys do know that developers, even if they are owned

by Microsoft like Rare, they will still make a game for Nintendo and Sony's handhelds but only for the handhelds NOT FOR CONSOLES BECAUSE MICROSOFT HAS THE XBOX 360 AND THATS A CONSOLE!

But since Microsoft doesnt have a handheld on the market, they let there developers work on handheld titles like DS AND PSP titles.
