Nintendo still rules Japan - Image 1 Okay, here's the latest stats on the Japanese gaming market. For the week ending 1 April 2007, the stats didn't really show significant changes. Nintendo still leads the hardware sales with a total of 16,073,997 units sold and dominating 38.4 percent of the console market. The Wii, still from Nintendo, comes next at a sales figure of 2,052,397 units while composing 24.2 percent of the market.

Next in the console sales count are PSP, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, GBA and Gamecube composing 19 percent, 8.1 percent, 8 percent, 1.5 percent, 0.6 and 0.1 percent respectively.

When it comes to software sales, meanwhile, DS software sold the most, representing 51.7 percent software sales. The rest of the software sales stats are as follows:
  • PS2: 33 percent
  • Wii: 8.8 percent
  • PSP: 3.3 percent
  • PS3: 2.8 percent
  • Xbox 360: 0.4 percent
We might say that the changes occurred in the game title sales count. The top 10 games sold in Japan for the week ending April 1 are as follows:
  1. Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix by Square Enix (PS2)
  2. Musou Orochi by Koei (PS2)
  3. Digimon Story Sunburst / Moonlight by Bandai (DS)
  4. More English Training for Adults by Nintendo (DS)
  5. World Puzzle Mojipittan DS by Namco (DS)
  6. Pro Baseball Spirits 4 by Konami (PS2)
  7. Yoshi Island DS by Nintendo (DS)
  8. Prof. Layton and the Mysterious Village by Level 5 (DS)
  9. Tamagotchi Splendid Rainbow Venture by Bandai (DS)
  10. Monster Hunter Freedom 2nd by Capcom (PSP)

why do japanese harshly bum nintendo? they play the worst games....
Tamagotchi Splendid Rainbow Venture by Bandai (DS)?!?!
Word puzzle?!!? come on... who would rather play gears of war?

 » Different Culture

Different cultures like different things, Japanese generally enjoy more cute things, whereas America tends to lean towards more hardcore killing and violence.

Nothing wrong with that, its why you will not see so many Gears of War-esque games on Wii as opposed to more Pokemon and Mario. Also more adults enjoy casual gaming out there so that is why Word Puzzle and More English Training for Adults sells more.

No sane person should have fun playing Digimon or "Tamagotchi Splendid Rainbow Venture", regardless of where they live.

Where is the North American gamesales gamestats ?.

i mentioned a week ago that 2 ps2 games is flying on japanese store shelves. one is KH2FR, and i forgot to mention orochi, oh and the baseball thinggy is also getting large sales.

USA gamestats are not published here because there are sites that has this on timely basis, just point your browser to game sites such as gamespot, 1up, ign etc and also those online websites of game stores such as EBgames circuit city etc.

japanese also like GTA's and FPS but since its not so available easily here, they have to buy whats in the shelves and on tv.

It looks like pirating is affecting the psp pretty badly in Japan. It has like a 19% market share in hardware yet it only managed to sell 3.3% games. Who buys a game machine without games? Oh never mind those that download them from the internet for free.

"Who buys a game machine without games?"

The answer is, every PS3 owner!

Also, PSP homebrew is better than the crap games they put out on UMDs.

I'm probably the only person in the world who thinks this, but I'm alittle tired of hearing about Nintendo's success.

Before, you could cheer for the DS, now you just kind of go, "who buys all of them?"

and the Wii? Put it this way, 250 dollars for what's basically a gamecube and a new controller. Right, I guess that's just fair practice.

Welcome to the future of gaming, welcome to Nintendo's world. *shudder*

Me and many other people think like you. In Italy I dont know a person with a wii. Only PS2,PS3 and Xbox360. Mostly PS2.

I think you can't handle change.

I was just fine hearing about the Ps2's success over the years, but now, its Nintendo's turn, and I'm just fine with that.

That $250 also includes a pack in game. At $200 its half the price of the xbox 360 premium. A third of the price of the PS3.

 » no testament

i can't handle THIS change.

Do i want to be a hardcore gamer in a world of *****ing mini games?! Do i want to have my console used for nothing but "brain" training and Indy style side scrollers? how about meager attempts to challenge my intelligence by telling me that online is a non issue?

I'm not trying to stick my neck out or anything but I find Nintendo's new found success revolting. I want next-gen games that go beyond what this generation has done. I want my action games to have 720p graphics, my shooters to have 5.1 surround sound, my rpgs with practically no load times and vibrant, expansive worlds that make XII look like breath of fire II.

Unlike Microsoft and Sony, Nintendo isn’t exploring the future of games. They’re creating the success of the DS onto your tv in your living room, then making a Mario for it and stamping a Nintendo seal over it. Heck, want proof? Then explain Zelda as a launch title. Here’s a hint: Zelda wasn’t built ground up for the Wii.

I have a question to all Wii owners though. Once Assassin’s creed, Devil May Cry 4 and Grand Theft Auto 4 come out, what are you going to playing? Metriod won’t be out, and who knows about Mario…maybe Brawl?

Of course you could always afford a wii60 if you wanted to play them, because you know, the Wii is a second-rate console anyways. (I’m just being an ass with this sentence, so ignore it if you must.)

 » I know what I'll be playing

All of them :). 360 + PS3 + Wii FTW

And who cares if Zelda wasn't built ground-up for the Wii? It's still better on it, and one of the best games of 2006.

   Re: Mooshywooshy - 2007-04-07
 » Haha

Why must there be people in this world like you that think

"I want to waste my entire life being 'hardcore' and shooting people virtually in the heads all day, i'm so bad ass! All this kiddy stuff is so lame and everyone in the world better be just like me or its wrong wrong wrong"

Just grow up honestly, if you want to play your (in my opinion) *****ty ps3 and xbox360 games then by all means play them, im not gonna run in and ***** on your parade just because I think you should be like me.

Assassins Creed, Devil May Cry 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, couldnt give a ***** less about any of them, all are based on senseless repetitive killing over and over. Sure if you like blood and gore 24/7 and you are all for the Columbine kids then rock on, but don't go running around with your epeen out screaming how the Wii is so *****ty simply because it doesn't have your games on it.

Do you not understand games are supposed to be FUN not a show for your eyes, had the industry stopped at pong you wouldn't have this retarded idea of graphics + better, you're just a spoiled brat that wants more graphics and less fun.

   Re: ContrAss - 2007-04-07
 » mooshywooshy?

i had fun playing tiger electronics too, what's your point? Obviously you disagree with what i have to say, but then you go off and talk about senseless violence? news flash: You kill things in Mario and Zelda. Hell, Kirby eats people.

Anyways, enjoy your 250 dollar gamecube, and waggle controls. Oh, and those PSP ports look awesome!

   Re: Mooshywooshy - 2007-04-07
 » ContrAss?

Contra was for NES, why have a name after such an old horrible graphic game? SOOOO laaaaME!

You're completely right, i'm so dumb to not realize just how much the killing in Zelda Mario and Kirby have in common with the killing in GTA. Zelda does in fact carry a realistic gun and kill realistic people. Mario has blood spurting out of necks after he sneaks up behind them and slits their throat. And Kirby oh god, that vile evil creature strikes fear in everyones hearts as he eats monsters whole and spits out their bloody corpses.

News Flash: Zelda Mario and Kirby kill monsters last I checked, completely fictional. You clearly cant get that through your thick head though, trying to make a comeback has failed you.

Anyways, enjoy your 600 dollar computer, and 1/2 waggle controls, or your 400 dollar lower quality computer with basic SNES controls. Oh, and those Basketball games look awesome!

I'll have fun with my games and extra money to spend on real life, you have fun wasting money on low quality computers and ultra awesome murder sim games.

 » WII is great

I thought of myself as a bit of a hardcore gamer, i've gone through all the megadrive, snes, dreamcast, psp and xbox and other than better graphics, better framerates the games pretty much stay the same as far as game play is concerned nothing really has evolved. That is until i picked up a WII controller and started pointing it at my TV screen and then with a huge grin on my face I ventured in to the world of WII and WII sports...If you've never played on a WII i definately recommend it I haven't had a single person round my house that hasn't thought it was great, everyone can play it and you don't need to be good at games. WII's success is built upon this, people who may never have played or bought a games console before will buy one after playing it, it is truly a work of genious and sales of the WII will no doubt blow away 360 and PS3. I imagine the next gen PS4 and XBOX 720(LOL) will have some kind of built in interaction copied from the WII. Nintendo is on to a winner here, it's not the graphics in games thats inportant its the gameplay, who wants some fancy HD racing game that you get bored of after about 10 minutes of playing, do yourself a favour, find someone who has a WII have a go and you'll be amazed by what fun can be had by this little machine.
