There's no denying that the Naruto franchise from Japan has grown to colossal heights, spawning ninja crazes with its manga, anime, merchandise, and gaming wings. Don't look now, but Nintendo DS owners are about to get nice, new taste of action courtesy of the Konoha gang.

In this video, you'll hear about what makes Naruto: Ninja Destiny (Naruto: Shinobi Retsuden) on the DS the most advanced fighting game currently out there for the handheld. The game features a healthy roster of series stalwarts that fans should be able to recognize instantly. Icons like Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, lee, and more are all spoiling for fights on the small screen.

Naruto: Ninja Destiny may not have done all that well in Japan, but there's no reason to hold back on this one if you think it's cool. The graphics are looking impressive, and the gameplay described in the video looks promising. Watch the clip and be the judge of that:

The Japanese version of this game was HORRIBLE. I love the GNT games and this one looked like a promising handheld version of those, but fell short...by a LOT. Granted, I knew not to expect everything those offered since this was portable, but even still, the gameplay was terrible, the choice of characters lacking, and AI difficulty was sporadic at best.

I've read that the EU/US versions imporove on some of these areas, so let's hope they REALLY improved, but I'm not counting on much...

After watching the video, though, two things really are noticeably different - the frame rate and character models. The original 3D models looked worse than the game played, but the cell shaded style of these looks pretty good.

I might have to check out the US release after all...
