Nintendo's main man in America, Reggie Fils-Aime, is making it known that he's not that much of a fan of the PSP Go, characterizing its concept as problematic. In an article from The Washington Post, it is reported that Fils-Aime described the newest Sony handheld as having a "fundamental concept problem." To quote in full: (The PSP Go may have a) fundamental concept problem in terms of 'Who's it for?' and 'What's the benefit?' I have the utmost respect for all our competitors, but it's interesting to try and answer the consumer question of 'What's in it for me?' in that product. Not only did he take a polite swipe (but a swipe, nonetheless) at the PSP, he also discussed a bit about their stand on entering into the mobile market. "We don't have a desire to get into the phone space. We think the game business is competitive enough." Well, can you guys provide an answer to his fundamental questions? Related Articles:

Funny, I asked myself the same thing about the DS. 'What's in it for me?'. Nothing at all. At least the PSPGo has a lot of excellent games and the storage space to carry most of them at once.

» So...
You have a max of about.... 16 games that you find good for the PSP? Because it only has 16 gigs of space. With the largest games, you couldn't even fit 11 on there.
I have a 16gig 2xMicroSD converter and it's full. And that's not my only card. Seriously, the amount of space in the PSPGo is tiny, especially if you want to use it with music or video.
The DS has a huge library of games, and while lots and lots are crap, it has more than 16 good games that anyone could enjoy.
What IS in it for you?

» Your argument against Nathan was dumb.
Who would play more than 11 games at a time w/o ever going back on their computer? When necessary you take 5 minutes to swap out.
PSP games have quality to them. 11 of my PSP games outlast almost all 86 games I have in my 16 GB microSD for DS.
What's in it for DS users is pick-up-and-play fun, what's in it for PSP users is in-depth, core gaming. Compare the some of the best DS has to offer + the some of the best PSP has to offer and you see the line I'm drawing (i.e. Phantom Hourglass vs. Chains of Olympus)

anyways yes ds has a humongous library of stupid games, psp has its fair share.
both has their own purpose.
have and liked them for their sole reason.
Fyga is right in game comparison but is wrong in expecting too much from the ds.

One of the things I noticed is that it is truly pocket-portable. That was one of the reasons the original or even the slim never really served as a media device for me, especially for music. But to get to the questions, I'd say this product is for a slightly older demographic than the Nintendo crowd who benefits from even more portability. How a top guy at Nintendo America can't answer his own questions explains perfectly why Nintendo has never interested me after the SNES.

Big surprise that the Nintendo guy doesn't like the new Sony device.
"We don't have a desire to get into the phone space"
So having digital media makes it a phone?

you see these corporate figures are just like mannequins or robots, they do what they are told or commanded.
yet your point is correct. he's disposition is not linking to his argument because the psp go is not a phone nor will it compete with phones.
and just he wait for a sony ericsson experia phone with psp go capability, its just in the sony labs awaiting corporate approval and major public clamouring.

» Well...
You can sort of see his point. I do own a Go, simply because I was intrigued by it, but as for who it's for?
Pretty much people for whom cost, availability of games and the second hand market isn't a factor.
That's a pretty small market in the current environment.
The free games are a nice touch (more so in Europe) but it's nothing I couldn't pirate if I had a mind to (I'm running ISO's on my 2000 anyway).
All in all I'd say, as a customer, I like the device itself but I find the other issues above as a major factor against owning the device. I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone else buys one unless they need the most portable option available.

One mans' design flaw is another man's selling point..
For instance - creating a games console that doesn't let you simply chill out and play a fúcking game.

It's for anybody willing to pay for it. Obviously. I would definitely buy one if I hadn't bought a new PSP earlier this year.

» Shut Up Nintendo.
They might be jealous of it. Sony PS has the best games than Nintendo. Graphics is even better than YOU,Nintendo. PSP Go is so-called as the all-in-one multimedia portable system. I used every single function on my PSP.
Nintendo, you just have to stop making bad comment on others.

Reggie Fils-Aime is delusional. I recall the months before the wii was released how he said the wii can stand toe to toe with the competition. HONESTLY we all paid for front row seats to this warped view of reality buy purchasing a wii. The PSP go has a lot of fuctions that were made possible by the homebrew community. and most of the wants from the same community were expressed in the design. personally I wanted that PSP2 concept art to have been the actual release over the go.. but we can't have everything it seems. The PSP go is basically the portable medium alternative to walking around with a bag full of umd's. with that alone it's worth the upgrade. BUT it's TOOO expensive. In closing Reggie needs to take his meds, and stop commenting on the competition that's actually making products (hardware and software) that the community wants. When Big N starts building real games instead of ports from the DS, they may be considered an actual force in the space. for now I'll stick to the child's toy persona for that company.

» One way the PSP GO can be more succesful
if there was wifi servers everywhere that anybody can use. So people don't need to complain about not being able to get on playstation store. Oh and they need to lower down that price, $50 more u can get a ps3slim or a ps3 backcom

Uh dude, d'you know how many countries sell Sony products? Sony won't even sell the Go at a decent price, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't blanket entire countries with WiFi just to keep Go owners happy.
And free WiFi doesn't cut it either when you're downloading files that large, the connection is likely to boot you out when they realize how much bandwith you're using, or it'll be so slow you'll sit at Starbucks for 10 hours just to get a game.
Just sayin'.

Hotspot thing going on before with one of the firmwares. Sony should definitely think about getting free Hotspot access to PSN.

I'm certainly not one to defend Sony but Nintendo has made 3 massive fundamental mistakes on it's last 3 consoles and without Pokemon to fund them they would have gone the way of Sega and became software only developers, Nintendo always stuck to the plan of keeping the console fun and always having new ideas so you can't fault them there, Sony just needs to be less obvious with it's greed like Apple did if they want anything to succeed.

(yay i found out how to do this) sony normally gos for greatness but every sony device ive ever had took at least 30 minutes to set up the first time i got it (but then again i like to customise my psp took me an hour) but nintendo never really made huge faults with any consoles i acctually miss carts there stronger than cd's the nintendo 64 is to this day my favorite console the gamecube well i didnt give a care that it couldnt play dvd's i never wanted to play dvd's on it and the game boy advance well ya they messed up but they fixed it with the sp ... then released the micro i got one for christmas it was small pocketable but my r trigger broke and i had to clean under the face plate like every week that was a mistake : but to summarize nintendo is a good company and go for simplicity in most cases and all there consoles come pre setup you dont really have to do anything to enjoy them and pokemon is not there only moneymaker there hasnt been a bad zelda game made by nintendo ever (except zelda II in my opinion but some ppl liked it) oh and the psx (playstation one for those that dont know) was a HORRRRRRRIIIIIIBLE shuffleware machine by god the crap for that console was scary in its numbers
oops sorry i rambled abit but ya nintendo + simple and fun sony + complicated but more variety

30 minutes to set up each Sony device? Wow... you must be severely mentally handicapped. I feel sorry for you, but the primary target of consumer electronics doesn't include your demographic.
Before I move on, your spelling, grammar, and indeed all linguistic traits are horribly crippled.
Nintendo has made several, but I have but one word that supersedes all: Wii.
Carts: the downside symbal referred to is their lower capacity.
N64: still *****ing awesome, can't criticize you there.
Gamecube's lack of dvd usage: less capacity
Less capacity + less extensive games, by the way.
"nintendo is a good company": Uh..... you're likely to have grown up playing Nintendo games and consoles, and so you're also likely to be biased.
pre-setup gibberish: you're an idiot.
poke'mon is not their only..: I have to agree, though it's a pointless... point... oxymoron... contradiction... anyways... It is insignificant, because they lack quality games now.
Zelda II: you're an idiot. :)
PSX: first off, anyone who is a gamer who doesn't know what PSX refers to (even though the term itself is unofficial) isn't likely to BE HERE. Second, it was a great and revolutionary system, that has and endless amount of amazing games still worth playing. You say there's a lot of crap for it, that's because A LOT OF PEOPLE BOUGHT IT BECAUSE IT HAD A LOT OF GOOD GAMES. Therefor, developers and hardware creators and such are attracted to target those groups.
Sorry for rambling, but I at least had it NOT be an eyesore, and had (mostly) solid points. Now stay off the internet. +D

yeah, not even worth reporting.
now, if some company would get praise from competition - now THAT would be interesting. that's really rare nowadays.

He should also mention how DS is way easier to pirate roms.
I love Roms and ISO's... I win.
I'll get a PSP Go if I can play all my ISO's again

And being raised on Sony makes someone any less than a Nintendo fan?
" A LOT OF PEOPLE BOUGHT IT BECAUSE IT HAD A LOT OF GOOD GAMES"
A lot of people bought iPods and buy the newest iCrap and waste all kinds of money buying singles on iTunes. That doesn't make them any better or the service superior to any other pay per song site.
God of War is and always will be lame. Listening to waves on a relaxant would keep me more entertained. When you talk about depth you mean graphical depth correct, because file sizes only have so much influence on length?
