Are you a dirty cheater looking for your fix in New Super Mario Bros.? Well, call me a drug dealer because I've got the stuff you need... Slashing Games has revealed that the classic Koopa shell trick of getting 99 lives has been revived. The instructions are as follows:

Go to World 2-4. At the end of the level you will see a Koopa walking down the steps that lead to the flagpole. Jump on him but don't kick the shell off the steps. Place yourself on the step directly below the step that the Koopa shell is on. Hug the step. Now, simply jump up in the air without touching the D-pad. You'll start to bounce on the shell. You’re done now! Wait until the desired 1-Up number is reached.

The video above demonstrates this exploit. That's right, Papa Smurf just hooked you up.

Slightly different than the old way if I remember right, but it's good to see an old classic cheat again.

I worked on the official strategy guide for this game. Theres tons of unlimited 1up tricks.

At the end of 1-1, theres a similiar stair-step pattern. Right before then, there's a red Koopa on a ledge. If you have fire-mario, jump on the koopa shell, carry it to the stairs, and hold it, waitting for it to come out of the shell. You'll take a hit, but it sets it up perfectly for the 1up trick since red koopas never walk down steps.

Theres probably 5 or 6 spoits like this throughout the game.

There are also areas where enemies come out of pipes limitlessly. Theres on where Bo-bombs come out, and a few where goombas come out. Several of them have spots where you can kick a shell so it rebounds limitlessly, and the pipe-spawning enemies walk into the path of it. This also works great in levels where Lakitus throw down Spinys.

but really... if you need to do the 99 1up trick more than once per game file, you suck.

Whoa, I had no idea there were so many of these exploits. Were they all just mistakes?

The game is so liberal with the 1-ups it's unlikely you'll need an exploit. Besides, it's incredibly easy to get four or five 1-ups world 1-1 alone.

Something tells me all these exploits were found during QA, but seeing how "cheap" 1-ups are in the game, they're not really game-destroying exploits.
